As a digital marketing freelancer, I regularly work with agencies in London and throughout the UK, working on B2C and B2B accounts.
Why agencies work with digital marketing freelancer
Freelancers are specialists in their field and, by virtue of being freelancers, work on various different accounts, bringing in valuable experience.
There are a number of reasons why agencies have hired me in the past:
- Staff turnover – someone is leaving and they haven’t found their next hire yet – they need someone for a month or two, often behind the scenes
- Workload – an agency has more work than their current staff can do, but not enough to justify a new hire – they need someone for several months, often client-side
- Specialist skills – an agency wins a new client and needs specialist knowledge that their current staff don’t have, e.g. working on a German account – this is often longer term and can be client-side or behind the scenes
What are the benefits for agencies
Flexibility:
- It is normally much quicker and easier to start (and end) a working relationship with a freelancer. It can take as little as a couple of days to sort out the paperwork, company email and access to Google Ads
- 10 hours / week is pretty good for a freelancer
Costs & expenses:
- No company benefits
- Freelancers love remote work and won’t need an office desk or a company laptop to do the work (unless you insist on it)
Expertise:
- Freelancers have worked with many people on many accounts
- We are good at time management and task prioritisation

WHAT PEOPLE SAY ABOUT ME
I’ve worked with Sonia when we’ve needed a little extra PPC capacity in our team. Out of all the PPC freelancers I’ve ever worked with (or interviewed) she has been by far the most impressive. A very diligent, methodical and experienced PPC marketer who uses her experience and knowledge above any recommendations suggested by a Google account manager. Even when we’re not working on a project together we are still engaging in debates about PPC to ensure we’re pushing our capabilities and best practice principles – another trait I admire in her, always open to learning new PPC skills and mastering her trade. Sonia is someone I will continue to hold in high regard and hope to work with again in the future.
Kherrin Wade – Director of Strategy @ Adido
Sonia is a solid digital marketer with deep and extensive knowledge of paid media (Google Ads, Business Facebook etc). Sonia has supported me during 2021 delivering PPC strategy, architecture, optimisation and reporting across paid channels. Not only is Sonia fast and accurate, she thinks about her work and how to make the best use of paid media budget and an asset to any team. I look forward to working with her again.
Ros Rowlatt – Head of Digital Marketing @ The Think Tank
Sonia is an articulate and very capable PPC manager. Having employed her on a contract basis at short notice, she was able to quickly get up to speed on our client portfolio, coming up with her own ideas and testing frameworks. I continue to recommend Sonia to other departments within our agency (as she is capable at Paid Social too) and would recommend her to anyone looking for PPC resource.
Andrew Boreham – Head of PPC @ Red Hot Penny
Why I work as a digital marketing freelancer
Flexibility – because we normally work with each client part-time, we can organise our days more freely.
Feeding our curiosity – I love learning new ways of working, new products, new business models and getting to meet new people.
Fewer meetings – no more team or company-wide meetings. Even if client-facing, freelancers have more time and focus to actually do the work.
